Food That Creates Mucus vs. Food That Eliminates Mucus

Food That Creates Mucus:

  • Dairy Products (e.g. milk, yogurt, cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese and ice cream) represent the primary source of mucus caused by food. Each of these foods may produce a thick, irritating phlegm in your throat. Consuming dairy products may also make existing mucus thicker and harder to loosen or thin.
  • Animal Products (e.g. meat, pork, fish, poultry, eggs or other foods derived from animals) are high in protein and can cause a buildup of mucus in your throat.
  • Fats and Oils derived from animals (e.g. ard, butter and omega-6 fatty acids). Better choices include flax, corn, sunflower, safflower and olive oil.
  • Grains (e.g. breads, pastas and processed cereals) cause sinus congestion and mucus. Seeds, legumes, rice, oats and oatmeal also produce mucus. Replace these products with barley, corn, buckwheat, millet and quinoa, which are dryer and do not product a thick mucus.
  • Beverages (e.g. coffee, chocolate drinks, milkshakes, alcohol and soft drinks with high sugar content) cause mucus to build up

Food That Eliminates Mucus:

  • Pineapple - with its key element bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme that breaks down proteins. It can aid the body heal from bronchitis and pneumonia as well. Fresh pineapple properties also act as anti-inflammatory agents, which can also reduce the swelling in air passages, making breathing easier and aiding in elimination.
  • Citrus fruits - natural boons to allergy and cold sufferers. Grapefruit in particular reduces salt in the body and will speed elimination of thick mucus and swelling, as it is also a natural anti-inflammatory. Other vitamin C bonanzas are lemons, limes and oranges.
  • Vegetables provide a wonderful defense against mucus and nasal allergies. Some vegetables with powerful elimination properties are asparagus, onions, cauliflower, celery and garlic. Fresh green vegetables are better immunity boosters, as they contain chlorophyll. Fruits do not contain this powerful antioxidant.
  • Heat & Spices - turn up the heat with spices like garlic and pepper. Another aid is ginger and a pinch of it in a daily diet may chase the mucus away. Season foods with herbs and spices. Herbal teas aid as well.

Smoking Kid

Called by many "the best anti-smoking ad ever", this campaign filmed children walking up to adult smokers, asking them for a light.

Every adult took the opportunity to remind the children that smoking was bad and rattled off the health consequences. The children replied, "If it's so bad, why are you smoking?" before handing them an anti-smoking leaflet.
